I’m a Christian. Therefore I believe in God – God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Besides this being how I was raised, this is also what I have learned to be true for myself. God the Father sent His son, Jesus, to save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21, KJV). God placed power in the name of Jesus. Just the mention of the name changes things. Imagine that level of power!
When people receive a cancer diagnosis, they may not feel any symptoms, but cancer’s name brings fear and concern. The name of Jesus carries a greater weight, calms any fear, and cancels every concern. I began having health challenges in 2006. It began with a seemingly minor concern of a bulging disk in my neck. After many tests, it was concluded that I had something major, the possibility of one of 3 connective tissue autoimmune diseases. As I waited to hear back from the doctor about my test results, I needed a name. I knew that there was no way I could fight without a name. I knew that there was a name higher than the name I was waiting to receive. I knew that I could call the name of that disease in prayer and then be very specific about everything that disease attacked. Jesus was the only name I could call that would supersede my diagnosis.
If you are a fan of Christian/gospel music or just music in general, then you are familiar with the songwriter and producer, Kirk Franklin. One of his most popular songs, Something about the Name Jesus, is easily a favorite. It features the late Rev. Rance Allen whose unmistakable voice reminds listeners that the name of Jesus is the sweetest name I know.
The something about the name of Jesus is the power and peace it carries. It is strong enough to conquer yet gentle enough to calm. In God’s infinite wisdom, He sent the Son of His love, encased in human form yet clothed in heavenly royalty, to carry the name that would be the password for our victory. I am grateful for God’s omniscience to see through time and know that in 2020, we would need a reminder that that is something about the name of Jesus.
Give love. Get love.
