Know Your Weight: Women of Influence and Change

Small Business Spotlight: Wonderfulli Made Beautique

To know her is to truly love her. She has the magnetic personality of her father and the fearlessness of her mother. When God formed and molded this being into existence, He said it was very good! She has been fearfully and wonderfulli made with her infectious laugh and forgiving spirit to help God’s creation through make-up artistry, self-care products, and beauty consultations find the diamonds hidden rough, less manicured facades. How is it that a girl that didn’t feel beautiful when she was younger seeks to make everyone feel beautiful inside and out?

Candace N. Clark, the owner of Wonderfullimade Beautique, is a makeup artist and beauty consultant. Her self-care product line seeks to remind us that all praise and honor belongs to God because we are His workmanship, and everything He makes deserves beautification. Drawing inspiration from music, art, her friends, and nature, Candace is motivated by people telling her what she cannot do.

Wonderfulli Made Beautique is a trifecta: make-up artistry, Candi Melts, and consulting. Beginning in 2013 with makeup and blind to the field’s potential saturation, she was determined to meet her clients’ needs. Her aim is the enhancement of beauty because we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. Those words did not become true for Candace until adulthood because of her struggle with low self-esteem as a child. Crafted from the scripture, Psalm 139:14, I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are they works; and that my soul knoweth right well, her mother always reminded her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made.

Beyond make-up, Candi Melts is her hair and skincare line that offers products ranging from body sugar and salt scrubs to beard balms. Her whipped shea butters smell like a warm hug and melt any harshness from your skin. As a faithful customer, I appreciate the love and prayer she applies to each product! As an aside, I look forward to spoiling my future hubby with her products (speaking those to be!)

The third arm of her franchise is her fashion and image consulting. Her creative genius has afforded her the privilege to organize and choreograph fashion shows. Just a few of her notable projects include the coordination of IGNITE! Alabama’s 2020 Rock the Vote Fashion Showcase featuring Kenya B’s Fall Collection and the choreography Virtue, Inc’s 2018 Matters of the Heart: The Little Red Dress Soiree. I’ve had the pleasure of being one of her models. She is unique, professional, and she makes the chaotic, behind-the-scenes atmosphere that fashion shows bring fun and memorable.

With her eyes set on becoming a global beauty industry leader, Candace desires her products on the shelves of your neighborhood shopper or beauty store. Or perhaps, you will purchase her scrub or black soap from her own brick and mortar. For now, shop online at www.wmbeautique.com. She is also available to speak about makeup and skincare to women of all ages. She is evidence of God’s love by showing others what faith can do.

Candace’s advice for black women entrepreneurs:

  • KEEP GOING! This is no easy feat. You are definitely going to want to quit…DON’T. Stay in the trenches.
  • Find mentors, people that are doing that same thing that you are doing, but in different stages of it (someone with freshly started business but further along than you, someone that has been in it for at least 3-5 years, and a pro).
  • Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine ownunderstanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Trust the process. Sometimes the path may look a little murky and foggy but go anyway.
  • Do it scared!
  • Most of all, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! This is my life’s mantra…Philippians 4:13 AMP – I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]
